5 Outdoor Activities near Winchester to Try This Spring

If you’re looking for ways to get outside and enjoy the spring weather, look no further! Winchester has some amazing outdoor spots and activities for you to enjoy. Whether you’re looking to go for a hike, bike ride, or just take in the scenery, there’s something for everyone. Here are five of our favorites!

-Sky Meadows State Park: This park is perfect for a day of hiking or picnicking. With over 1,900 acres of meadows, forests, and streams, there’s plenty of beauty to take in. There are also several historic buildings on the property that are definitely worth checking out!

-Shenandoah National Park: Virginia’s very own national park is just down the road! Shenandoah is perfect for a day (or more) of hiking, camping, and exploring. Visit the Byrd Visitor Center to learn about the history of the park, enjoy ranger programs, eat at one of the many restaurants, and enjoy over 500 miles of trails!

-Kernstown Battlefield: Enjoy walking trails, a visitor center, and historic home built in 1854 at this 388-acre Civil War battlefield park just outside of Winchester. This park is free to visit (though donations are appreciated!) and perfect for a leisurely stroll or an afternoon picnic.

Old Town Winchester-State Arboretum of Virginia: The Virginia State Arboretum stands in the central 172 acres of Blandy Experimental Farm, and surrounds the picturesque Historical Quarters building. This is a great place to come for a peaceful walk, and to learn about the many different species of trees and plants with a guided tour or a self-guided audio tour around the property.

-Old Town Winchester: A visit to Historic Old Town Winchester is a great way to spend an afternoon or weekend. Park nearby and enjoy local shops, restaurants, breweries, and much more! Visit the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, Civil War Museum, Patsy Cline House, or one of the many other historic landmarks around downtown.

Spring is the perfect time to get outside and explore all that Winchester has to offer! These are just a few of the outdoor activities available in our community.
